The Winter 2024 quarterly newsletter offers a powerful mix of service updates, personal recovery reflections, and historical insight for the LGBTQ+ AA community.
Hilde M., our Chair, opens the issue by reflecting on the season of change—both in nature and in GaL-AA’s annual election cycle. She highlights AA’s Concept X and invites members to participate in the November Annual Meeting and Town Hall.
A major feature of this edition is “Era of Change—Roundups,” a two-part exploration of LGBTQ+ AA roundups through time. This thoughtful piece traces their origins in the 1970s, the impact of the AIDS crisis, the rise of additional recovery fellowships, and how many conferences evolved into broader “recovery” events. It also details GaL-AA’s process and group conscience in reaffirming the importance of maintaining the roundup calendar while adding clarity around AA vs. non-AA events.
Two heartfelt member stories anchor the spiritual core of this edition:• Step 11 Story (Jacques C.) – A beautiful share on daily prayer, meditation, and building conscious contact with a Higher Power.• Step 12 Story (John W.) – A reminder of the joy found in service, sponsorship, and carrying the message.
The issue also includes a Tradition 10 reflection, detailing the lessons learned from the Washingtonians and how AA’s commitment to staying out of controversy protects our Fellowship.
