Leave a Legacy of Recovery

For many of us, GaL-AA has been a vital sanctuary on our journey of recovery. By planning an estate gift, you can help ensure that GaL-AA continues to support LGBTQ+ alcoholics seeking recovery for generations to come.

In alignment with AA’s Seventh Tradition, GaL-AA is fully self-supporting and accepts planned gifts exclusively from AA members.

📌 Fast Facts: Gift Guidelines

To respect AA's tradition of self-support and independence, estate gifts are subject to specific limits:

  • Eligibility: Accepted from AA members only.

  • Maximum Limit: A one-time maximum bequest of $12,500 per person.

  • Perpetuity: Gifts cannot be made in perpetuity.

  • Review: All estate gifts are subject to formal review and acceptance by the GaL-AA Executive Committee to ensure alignment with our mission.

Suggested Bequest Language

If you wish to include GaL-AA in your will or living trust, you can share the following sample language with your attorney or estate planning professional:

“I give and bequeath to GaL-AA, a nonprofit organization, the sum of $________ (not to exceed the current AA contribution limit for bequests), to be used for its general purposes in carrying the message of recovery to LGBTQ+ members and potential members of Alcoholics Anonymous.”

Organization Details for Your Estate Planner:

  • Legal Name: Gays and Lesbians In Alcoholic Anonymous, Inc.

  • EIN: 27-2507455

  • Mailing Address: 9450 SW Gemini Drive #45287, Beaverton, OR  97008

Important Planning Information

  • Professional Guidance: GaL-AA cannot provide legal, tax, or financial advice. We strongly encourage you to consult with an estate planning attorney or financial advisor.

  • Future-Proofing Your Gift: Because AA contribution limits change over time, we recommend using language (like the sample above) that automatically caps your bequest at the maximum allowed limit at the time the gift is received.

How Estate Gifts Are Reviewed

  1. Notification & Initial Review: When GaL-AA is notified of a bequest, the Finance Committee reviews the estate documents to assess the gift type, conditions, or potential risks.

  2. Recommendation: The Finance Committee provides a recommendation to the Executive Committee.

  3. Formal Acceptance: The Executive Committee votes on formal acceptance, records the decision in the official minutes, and sends a formal acknowledgment to the executor or estate representative.

Note: GaL-AA reserves the right to decline any estate gift that creates legal, financial, or operational concerns.

Optional Notice to GaL-AA

You are under no obligation to notify GaL-AA of your estate plans. However, if you choose to share your decision, your information will remain strictly confidential and will greatly assist the committee in planning future services.
