IAC Newsletter – June 2007

The June 2007 IAC Newsletter documents a period of strong service activity, upcoming elections, and expanding outreach to LGBTQ+ AA groups across the U.S. and Canada. The newsletter opens with the announcement of Biannual IAC Executive Committee Elections, scheduled for August 17, 2007. Open positions include:

Nominations (including service résumés) were invited from all members, with ballots scheduled to be mailed August 1 and results announced at the New Jersey Roundup in September 2007.
🌴 IAC Meets at “Sober in the Sun” – Palm Springs 2007
A detailed recap of the IAC’s in-person meetings during the Palm Springs Roundup highlights:
A strong presence at the convention, with IAC listed in the program
A successful hospitality table with high engagement
Seventh Tradition collection support from SITS
An informal but productive general meeting with strong interest from newcomers
Afternoon breakout work sessions focusing on website updates, budget planning, directory accuracy, and 2010 Convention preparation
During the event, several new regional representatives stepped forward, including reps for Palm Springs, Long Beach, and likely Mexico City. Mary S. also stepped into the role of Newsletter Editor.
🗺 Call for IAC Representatives
Because IAC maintained a network of regional, state, and national reps, the committee issued a request for volunteers to verify their contact details. States needing representatives included: AZ, CA, CO, DE, FL, HI, ID, IA, KS, KY, MD, MN, MT, NV, NM, NY, ND, OH, PR, SC, SD, TN, TX, USVI, UT, VA, DC, WV, WI, WY.
📝 Executive Committee Meeting Highlights
Key updates from the February 17, 2007 meeting include:
Website redesign updates and a shift toward a fully searchable, standardized meeting and roundup directory
Plans for printed directories with accurate AA meeting details
Preparations for 2010 International Convention involvement
Improvements to communication and email distribution
Discussions about historical IAC roles (e.g., former Loners Committee)
Confirmation of upcoming biannual executive meetings at Palm Springs (Spring), New Jersey (Fall), and Texas (Spring 2008)
Financial reports showed:
Current balance: $13,937.63
2010 Convention restricted funds: $1,635.00
💻 Website Redesign Project
A major feature describes the early development of the new IAC-AA.org website, built with searchable meeting and roundup databases, digital submission forms, and improved user navigation. The new system would allow:
Roundups and meetings to update their own listings
Automatic formatting and verification
More accurate, timely directory information
A more stable long-term web infrastructure
The beta site was available at: http://beta.iac-aa.org
📰 Welcome from the Newsletter Editor
New editor Mary S. introduces herself, shares her AA and service history, and invites members to contribute stories, updates, letters, and announcements to strengthen communication across LGBTQ+ AA communities.
🌈 Historical Reflection – “International Advisory Council”
Lynn W. offers a heartfelt essay on the origins of the IAC, her first International Convention in 1980, the origins of LGBTQ+ AA hospitality rooms, and the importance of creating a “lavender doorway” so LGBTQ newcomers can find their way into AA.
