Hello, my name is Anil and I am an alcoholic and addict. My sobriety date is January 19th, 2006—and I’m honored to be your new Ms. Sobriety World 2025.

What a journey this has been! This title is not only a dream come true, but also a milestone in a path that began 19 years ago. I had originally hoped to participate in the 2020 AA International Convention, but as we all know, COVID had other plans. This year, I was finally able to step into this space and fully embrace the opportunity.

I officially entered the running earlier this year and kicked off my fundraising campaign in February. I dedicated a lot of time to personally reaching out—not just to friends in recovery, but to family, coworkers, and friends from all corners of my life. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of traveling across the U.S., attending countless roundups and making deep, lasting connections. Those relationships were invaluable during this process. Fundraising for GaL-AA, knowing it helps support and represent our LGBTQ+ recovery community, gave my efforts an even deeper sense of purpose.

I’m also incredibly grateful for the support I received from loved ones outside the program. From all the different “hats” I’ve worn over the years, I’ve built a strong and loving community—and their response truly moved me. I also had the chance to fundraise during Oscar’s Drag Brunch and promote the event at a major PRIDE celebration at La Fuente Hollywood Treatment Center, where I currently serve as Associate Executive Director.

Being crowned Ms. Sobriety World 2025 in beautiful Vancouver by my dear friend Danny C., who held the title in 2015 and again in 2020, was nothing short of magical. Words truly fall short of capturing the gratitude I feel for this entire experience.

As I step into this role, I look forward to the years ahead—meeting many of you in person and continuing to carry the message of GaL-AA with love, pride, and commitment.

The General Service Board trustees’ Committee on Cooperation with the Professional Community/ Treatment and Accessibilities is pleased to announce the launch of the “Military Veteran Interview Project”. This initiative invites A.A. members who are veterans of the United States or Canadian Armed Forces to participate in a unique opportunity to share their experiences.

The goal of this effort is to enhance A.A. outreach efforts specifically tailored to military veterans in  the U.S. and Canada. A key component will be the creation of several audio interviews, in which anonymity-protected A.A. members who are military veterans share their experience, strength, and hope — focusing on the intersection of military service and recovery in A.A.

The project is seeking representation from a broad spectrum of veterans across all branches of the Armed Services in Canada and the U.S. The aim is to include voices from a diverse range of backgrounds, ranks, ages, genders, orientations, and operational experiences. Each story will illustrate the journey of recovery and sobriety during or after military service.

If you are an A.A. member and would like to learn more about this project or volunteer for an interview, please reach out to the U.S. and Canadian points of contact via email at: militaryoutreach@aa.org. The anonymity of all participants will be rigorously protected.

Please share this information widely within the A.A. Fellowship to reach as many members and trusted servants as possible.
