GaL-AA Newsletter – Winter 2022
(November – December 2022)

The Winter 2022 newsletter embraces the spirit of gratitude, service, and connection as the year draws to a close. The opening article, “A Season of Gratitude and Service,” highlights November as AA’s gratitude month and reflects on the powerful way service work deepens recovery. The message shares GaL-AA’s core purpose: supporting LGBTQ+ alcoholics through communication, connection, representation at GSO, and hosting the LGBTQ+ hospitality suite and dance at the AA International Convention. Members are invited to get involved as preparations continue for the 2025 Vancouver convention.
A major feature of this issue focuses on Contributing to GaL-AA, which explains how Seventh Tradition contributions support critical services such as the website, literature distribution, hospitality events, roundup sponsorships, and outreach. The article emphasizes transparency, the importance of self-support, and the role of GaL-AA as a special composition group serving LGBTQ+ members worldwide.
Two Roundup Highlights bring energy and fellowship to the issue:• Florida Roundup 2022 – by Sue H. Sue shares her first-time experience at the Fort Lauderdale event—complete with beachfront venues, packed poolside crowds, workshops, powerful speakers, and friendly, welcoming fellowship.
• Southeastern Massachusetts Roundup (SEMRU)Mark P. recaps a revitalizing weekend of workshops, meditation, guided strolls, and speaker meetings at this long-running LGBTQ+ AA event, marking its strong return after pandemic interruptions.
This issue’s Member Story, “GrAtitudeY” by Adam P. (Cleveland, OH), is a heartfelt reflection on early sobriety, self-acceptance, coming out, and discovering belonging through LGBTQ+ AA meetings. Adam details spiritual experiences, sponsorship, community, and the growing courage to live authentically—stories that resonate deeply across the fellowship.
The newsletter also includes contributions from April–October 2022, committee listings, the Steps and Traditions for the quarter, and a roundup calendar of upcoming events across the U.S. and Canada.
