GaL-AA Newsletter – Fall 2021
(January – June 2021)

This edition of the GaL-AA Newsletter captures a unique moment in our Fellowship as the LGBTQ+ AA community continues adapting to the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic while staying grounded in unity, service, and spiritual growth.
The issue opens with a call for candidates for the 2021 GaL-AA Elections, outlining open Executive Committee positions—Deputy Chair, Secretary, and Advisor II—along with the full election schedule. Members interested in service are encouraged to submit résumés and consider appointed roles such as Newsletter help, Roundup Liaisons, or website support.
One of the main features is “How It Works – Honesty, Open-Mindedness, and Willingness.” This piece revisits the spiritual foundations of recovery and highlights how these three essential principles help us navigate difficult times, remain teachable, and grow along spiritual lines.
This newsletter also revisits Tradition 10, detailing why AA maintains no opinion on outside issues. The article explains how this Tradition protects unity, reduces controversy, and keeps our Fellowship focused solely on carrying the message to the alcoholic who still suffers.
A section on Contributing to GaL-AA outlines available options (Venmo and Square Cash) and explains how contributions support literature distribution, website operations, hospitality events, and assisting LGBTQ+ AA members worldwide—especially during a period when in-person fundraising was largely paused.
The issue features creative content such as slogans for use in meetings and invites members to contribute captions for two featured photos.
The Member Story section includes several heartfelt contributions:
• “Getting Through” – by Jim P. — A reflection on staying sober through the early COVID lockdowns, adapting to Zoom meetings, and finding gratitude amid uncertainty.
• “It’s an Ill Wind That Blows No Good” – by Joe W. — A powerful story about adapting through the pandemic, forming new AA connections, and rediscovering spiritual grounding while navigating isolation.
• A moving letter from the editor, Gary C., reflecting on retirement, gratitude, and a lifetime of recovery shaped by service and the Twelve Steps.
The newsletter closes with financial contribution listings for June–October 2021, Executive Committee contact details, the Twelve Steps and Tradition 10, and a calendar of upcoming roundups across the U.S. and Canada.
