GaL-AA Newsletter – Fall 2018
(October – November – December 2018)

The Summer 2018 newsletter captures growing excitement and community energy as preparations build toward the 2020 International AA Convention in Detroit. This issue highlights fundraising progress, Seventh Tradition guidance, member engagement opportunities, and support for newcomers during a busy summer season.
The newsletter opens with a 2020 Detroit Committee Update, celebrating the success of the very first fundraiser—an intimate dinner party hosted by Martin Mc., raising $1,200 for GaL-AA’s 2020 hospitality and dance events. Megan M. and Martin share their enthusiasm for upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and the effort to bring the conference theme “Love and Tolerance Is Our Code” to life.
A warm seasonal reflection titled “Summer in Sobriety” reminds readers that summertime—while fun and social—can be challenging for newcomers. Members are encouraged to reach out, include new folks in fellowship, and show that sober life can be full of joy, connection, and community.
This edition includes a call for Newsletter Contributors, inviting LGBTQ+ AA members from across the U.S. and abroad to submit stories, area news, and ideas to strengthen the newsletter’s reach and representation.
A featured Seventh Tradition fundraising letter outlines how contributions support GaL-AA’s essential 12-Step work, including:
Maintaining LGBTQ+ AA meeting and roundup databases
Operating hospitality events at AA’s International Conventions
Distributing literature such as Sober & Out
Supporting communication and technology services
Ensuring GaL-AA remains fully self-supporting
The Sober & Out program is highlighted again, offering free LGBTQ+ AA storybooks to Hospitals & Institutions (H&I) upon request.
The issue includes March–May 2018 contributions, acknowledging groups and individuals across the fellowship for their support.
Rounding out the newsletter are this quarter’s Steps (7–9) and Traditions (7–9) along with a full list of upcoming LGBTQ+ AA roundups across the U.S. and Canada.
