(October – November – December 2017)
The Fall 2017 newsletter focuses on service, self-support, connection, and strengthening the LGBTQ+ AA community as GaL-AA prepares for another year of growth and outreach.
The issue opens with GaL-AA’s call for candidates for the 2018 Elections. Three positions are open for rotation—Deputy Chair, Secretary, and Advisor II. Members are reminded that anyone, anywhere in the world, can run for the Executive Committee. The newsletter outlines the full election timeline, along with the responsibilities and expectations for each position. Additional non-voting appointed roles are also available, including help with the newsletter, website, and roundup liaison duties.
This edition includes an audio-featured AA story, submitted by a member named Benny, who shares his journey through chronic relapse, eventual long-term sobriety, and transformation through the AA program. His story—recorded at the 2016 San Antonio Roundup—is linked for members to listen to and share.
A detailed Seventh Tradition / Self-Support article explains how GaL-AA uses contributions to fulfill its mission. Funds support the LGBTQ+ AA meeting database, website and technology services, literature distribution, International Convention hospitality efforts, and communication with members worldwide. The article emphasizes transparency, unity, and gratitude for ongoing support.
The newsletter also encourages members to participate in GaL-AA Fundraisers, offering creative ideas like speaker dinners, drag bingo, or local sober gatherings to help support GaL-AA’s work—especially in preparation for the next International Convention.
This issue includes June–August 2017 contributions, recognizing the support of groups and individuals across the U.S. and Canada.
Rounding out the newsletter are Steps 10–12, Traditions 10–12, and a full schedule of upcoming LGBTQ+ AA roundups across North America.
