GaL-AA Newsletter 2024 1st Quarter
(January – February – March 2024)

The Winter 2024 newsletter opens the year with encouragement, inspiration, and updates from across the GaL-AA Fellowship. In her New Year’s message, Chairperson Hilde M. reflects on starting fresh, strengthening personal coping skills, maintaining support systems, and embracing gratitude as a daily practice. She also shares early preparations for the 2025 International Convention in Vancouver.
This edition includes updates from the most recent GaL-AA elections, welcoming newly elected committee members:
• Deputy Chair – Solis R. (Austin, TX)
• Advisor II – Vincent B. (Palm Springs, CA)
• Treasurer – Jim D. (Atlanta, GA)
• Advisor IV – Jim A. (Los Angeles, CA)
Each offers a short personal introduction and their commitment to serving the LGBTQ+ AA community.
The newsletter contains several powerful member stories.
• A View from Vancouver (Dale W.) — A reflection on early sobriety in Toronto, service work, and the gratitude that carried him from treatment to long-term recovery.
• The 1-2-3 Waltz (Steps 1–3) by Mark P. — A heartfelt story about surrender, early sobriety struggles, discovering a loving Higher Power, and learning the daily practice of Steps 1, 2, and 3.
• Traditions 1, 2 & 3 (James R.) — An insightful exploration of unity, group conscience, and unconditional inclusion within Alcoholics Anonymous.
The Report from the Field comes from Gary C., who recounts a recent trip to Puerto Rico where several meetings listed online were unavailable, recommending visitors confirm meeting information in advance or utilize virtual meetings when needed.
Also included are contributions from October–December 2023, committee listings, and a calendar of upcoming roundups across the U.S. and Canada.
