The August 2005 IAC Newsletter is one of the most detailed and historically significant reports from the Toronto International AA Convention. This edition documents the full financial breakdown of the IAC Hospitality Suite and Dance, introduces the newly elected Executive Committee, and includes the complete Toronto committee minutes.


The issue opens with an apology for the delayed report and immediately introduces the newly elected IAC Executive Committee, effective 2005–2007:

🌈 Toronto 2005 International Convention Financial Summary

This newsletter contains full transparency around the costs, fundraising, and financial outcomes of the LGBTQ+ events at the Toronto International Convention.

Key financial highlights include:


  • Initial deposits paid by IAC:

    • $20,000 for Toronto IAC events

    • $5,000 for venue insurance

    • $1,500 for Canadian phone communications

    • $8,000 in administrative expenses

    • Total initial outlay: $34,500+


  • Additional reimbursement:

    • A check from the Toronto host committee: $3,723.38


  • Current IAC treasury balance: $1,868.58 (after event expenses)

A quote from Gordon M. explains why the event did not break even:

Attendance at the International Convention was 10,000 people fewer than Minneapolis 2000, resulting in:• 6,000 fewer people visiting the Hospitality Suite• Reduced attendance at LGBTQ+ meetings• 700 fewer attendees at the Saturday night dance

Despite lower attendance, the energy, sobriety, and unity were extraordinary:

  • 1,853 people signed the Hospitality Suite guestbook

  • Over 22,320 years of combined sobriety passed through over four days

  • Average sobriety per guest: 12.5 years
